Barry Magee - One of the New Zealand's greatest talents of the 1960's, Barry has used the knowledge instilled in him by the unrivaled Arthur Lydiard to assist with other great talents coming out of New Zealand and many other parts of the world over the past 40 years. His accolades include wins and places in some of the top marathons as well as 5,000 &10,000m distances and 17 New Zealand titles. |
From Arthur L. Lydiard |
I have known Barry Magee since he was a teenager; acting as his athletic coach:eventuating in him winning an Olympic Bronze Medal and other international races of note. He is a man who has high moral standards and spends much of his time coaching athletes and assisting many others to enjoy healthy and productive lives: eventuating in them achieving their personal goals. He has a good knowledge of the effects of physical activities and sensible diets upon the human body, leading to better life styles. He is a very sincere and reliable person who has many fine attributes and I have no hesitation in recommending for any position that require a person with his ability and character. He has a fine ability to impart his knowledge to others. |

Rome Olympic (1960) |
Barry has continued from his era of glory in the `60's to run sub 2hr 30m marathon at the age of 48 and 49 and he was still ranked among the top runners in his New Zealand age group at 65. This success in his senior years is due to his commitment to his own athletes who he has helped over the last 4 decades. Training along side most of these athletes has kept him in the incredible shape depicted here. Barry has acquired a level of knowledge on health issues related to athletes, helping them to achieve a better quality of life. Back to Top |
