Graham Wilson

You can start running whenever you want. Here is Mr. Graham Wilson's story.

In 1982, at the age of 48, with my body really sick from stress and related disease,   I sold my business and began to try to physically put my body and mind together. My options were depending on drugs, or depending on exercise in the form of jogging with minimal drugs.

I began in the YMCA Men's gym club, overweight, despondent, but with hope. After nearly 2 years of shuffling, then jogging, I took part in two Half Marathons and Fun Runs. Having shed nearly 3 stone in weight, I was encouraged to run in the Rotorua Marathon, a seemingly impossible goal.

I approached my friend, Barry Magee for advice. Barry set me a programme for a 4 month build-up in preparation, which include training schedules and plenty of encouragement, with approval and support from my doctor.

In April 1985, I ran Rotorua Marathon in the worst weather they had had for 21 years-and what an experience. Seeing the finishing line barrier brought a surge adrenalin like never before. This achievement, together with the improvement in health, have continued to benefit my life. If I can do it, anybody can. Many Thanks again to Barry.
